 SafeClean use instructions

Use instructions for SafeClean NonToxic Coin Cleaner. Please read thoroughly before use:

Precautions for use: Store in a cool dry place. Keep tightly closed. The shelf life is essentially unlimited when stored correctly. Slippery if spilled. In the event of eye contact, rinse thoroughly with water. No special disposal requirements.
The date on the bottom of the bottle is the month/day/year the bottle was filled.

Product contents: A proprietary formula consisting of plant based surfactants and emulsifiers. Completely biodegradable.

The user of this product assumes full responsibility for the use, handling and results of using SafeClean Coin Cleaner.

HOW TO USE:
Any plastic, glass or ceramic container preferably with wide flat bottom will do. I use small white plastic measuring cups for immersing small numbers of coins and larger plastic bowls for up to even a hundred or more coins.

Product MUST be diluted with water for use. Use distilled water for predictable results. The mineral and especially chlorine content of tap water can affect results.

IMPORTANT: I strongly recommend cleaning a number of common or low value coins of different materials to learn what methods and dilution rates work better for you. Do not mix the entire bottle of cleaner with water all at once unless you intend to use the solution in a large jewelry cleaner or something similar and only after you have determined what dilution ratio you wish to use.

For Nickels: Concentrations of 1 part cleaner concentrate to 3 to 4 parts water seem to work best for nickels. Immerse coins with just enough diluted solution to completely cover the coin(s). There is no limit to how many coins you can clean at once as long as you can monitor the process. Some will clean in minutes and others much longer. Set coin(s) in solution for a few minutes then remove and rub coin briefly between fingers and thumbs. Brush with a NEW soft toothbrush if desired to loosen grime around and in coin details on circulated coins only. Continue soaking until desired level of cleaning is acheived. Brush or wipe as needed. Turn the coins a few times per day when using long soaking times or prop coins on a piece of toothpick or equivalent. Extremely corroded nickels may require only 2 parts water. There is no limit to the length of time you may soak a coin but nickels may take 24 hours to remove all accumulated oily dirt. Longer times may be required to clean darkened, corroded, or coins with verdigris. Rinse in distilled water when done and dry with a soft or micro fiber cloth.

It is not unusual for the cleaning solution to turn green and thicken after hours of immersing copper and copper/nickel coins. The solution should be changed or replenished with additional concentrate every 24 hours if longer soaking times are needed.

For silver and copper coins: Start with a 1 part cleaner concentrate to 6 parts water up to a 1 : 8 solution. Copper and silver clean very quickly. Rub between fingers and thumbs until the desired level of cleaning is achieved. Be very careful when cleaning circulated silver and copper coins. Over cleaning them can leave them looking artificial. Gentle brushing will help loosen dirt in legends and other details more quickly. Rinse in distilled water when done and dry with a soft or micro fiber cloth.

You may use the higher concentrations of cleaner on copper and silver coins if they don't respond well to the recommended dilution rates but be careful, the cleaning process will accelerate quickly.

I like to follow with Verdicare used according to instructions to preserve the new appearance and prevent new corrosion or oxidation. SafeClean may not be able to completely remove deeply embedded verdigris. I have used VerdiCare according to instructions for this with reasonably good results. Spot cleaning with any hydrochloric acid based household cleaner like Lime Away will work on verdigris as well. Store cleaned coins, especially uncirculated coins, in an air tight holder or mylar flip.

Gold coins: Dilutions of 1:6 to 1:8 work well. Since gold resists tarnishing or corrosion, gold coins will generally clean easily and quickly. Circulation gold coins typically contain some copper.

Happy cleaning and thanks for trying new SafeClean. Full refund if not completely satisfied.
