ROSACEA
Rosacea is a genetically predisposed skin disorder believed to be caused by a bacterial infection in the bloodstream (heliobacter pylori, the same bacteria that causes many duodenal ulcers). It manifests itself in red, dry, flaky patches over the cheeks and nose that can be very painful.
Several factors can aggravate rosacea symptoms, such as hot liquids, spicy foods, alcohol, sunlight, stress, extreme temperatures (such as hot tubs or saunas), smoking, or simply rubbing the skin. Rosacea sufferers should limit the use of any skin care products containing beta or alpha-hydroxy acids, Retin-A, Differin, benzoyl peroxide, or any type of exfoliate.
Prescription medications such as Metro Gel, Metro Cream, Azelaic Acid or oral tetracycline, erythromycin, and clindamycin (antibiotics) may lessen the symptoms and sometimes even clear up rosacea. The downside is the antibiotics kill the good bacteria as well as the bad bacteria in your system. This may compromise the immune system and disturb digestion. Photoderm lasers (same ones used to remove spider veins from legs) can remove rosacea permanently.
Emu oil is very effective at suppressing the redness and itching of rosacea, but it must be used continually or else the rosacea will reappear. Fortunately, as a moisturizer, emu oil has very pleasant feel . Our experience has found emu oil will help relieve the symptoms of rosacea in almost all sufferers. Do not use emu oil in conjunction with prescription medication such as Metro Gel without a doctor’s knowledge.
